I am Professor of Philosophy and Edward B. Lindaman Endowed Chair at Whitworth University. I received my Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame in 2009. My scholarly work addresses such topics as intellectual virtue, business ethics, the philosophy of education, civil discourse, the epistemology of disagreement, and the philosophy of religion.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about the role of intellectual virtues (e.g., curiosity, humility, and intellectual perseverance) in education and everyday life. My book, The Excellent Mind: Intellectual Virtues for Everyday Life was released by Oxford University Press in 2021. Most recently, I edited a volume on The Virtues of Endurance (Oxford, 2025).
